Project Care Package

We have decided to introduce something special into this July 4th holiday. I am going to take my daughter and buy some goods and make some crafts and send a care package to a soldier who is deployed and in need of some supplies.

I have been wanting to do this for a long time now. Since my daughter is old enough to understand what she is contributing to this now is as good a time as ever.

I found a website called Any Soldier and they provide all the info that is needed to send a soldier a package and you don’t need to even know the soldier.

You can pick from a list of soldier representatives who will deliver the package to the soldiers who need them the most first. The whole unit gets to share.

We have had issues with our daughter lately and her lack of appreciation for the small things. I think she is getting a little too entitled. I suppose I can’t blame anyone but myself for that. We try so hard to instill honesty and integrity in her. I just don’t think it’s working.

It’s not like she is 15 and stealing the car or anything. She is just growing up so fast and I want to make sure she has at least a shred of the right morals and values before it’s too late.

I think having her create her own craft for a soldier that she knows maybe doesn’t have a family of his own anymore, or hasn’t received a letter or a care package in a while, would give her the feeling of doing something nice for someone else without getting anything back in return.

I am optimistic that this will be a nice project that we can do together. Not only teach her respect for the soldiers fighting for our country but possibly sink some modesty in there too.

Will update as to how ‘Project Care Package’ turns out. =)
