Well that was fast…My Pregnancy the Beginning

As you know once in a while we find amazing moms whose stories we love to share with you. Today is SUPER special as this mom is going to stick with us for a while and share her pregnancy journey. Please welcome The Rookie Mom (in waiting).

Well, that was fast...My Pregnancy the Beginning

I live in Annapolis, Maryland, but a transplant from Boca Raton, Florida. I currently work from home doing social media for a major sports Internet company, married to an amazing man and have a gorgeous golden retriever, Charley. I met my amazing husband in the summer of 2009, got engaged in 2010 and married in 2011. We are now expecting our first child, who is due May 31st!

To say that I am shocked that my baby is due May 31st is an understatement. I took a couple of pregnancy tests on December 9, both coming back positive. I went to my general doctor that day for a checkup, which I was thrilled to learn that I lost 15 pounds! My doctor did blood work to confirm my pregnancy. The next day he called to congratulate me and estimated I was approximately 6-7 weeks pregnant. Boy was he off.

We decided to tell our parents, but we wanted to wait until we went to the OB to tell the rest of our family and friends. My mom came to visit for New Years and we decided to take our parents out to dinner, minus my dad to tell them the news. We had a picture of Charley with a poster that said “I’m going to be a big brother”.

Our announcement - That was FastWe told our moms they had to open the gift at the same time…what happened next was not what we thought would happen. Both of our moms thought we were getting another dog! When we said, no, they both put their hands over their mouths and the tears started flowing. Immediately, we called my dad, who was in shock, but very happy!

My appointment with an OB wasn’t until January 2, which I felt like was an eternity. Based on my last period, I was 18 weeks along, which was a shock to me. My other doctor said 6-7 weeks, which would only put me at about 10-11 weeks, is that even possible? The doctor did an ultrasound, which confirmed I was indeed 18 weeks. My husband and I heard the baby’s heartbeat, which immediately brought me to tears. We also got to see the baby, who was very active. I just cannot believe what I was seeing. OMG I’m going to a mom, I cannot believe it!

Ultrasound - That Was Fast

After we left the OB, we immediately started calling our family and friends. Everyone was very happy for us, a few, including my best friend, Mary, who I’ve known since we were seven, was crying! Now that everyone knows, it was time to start preparing for the arrival of Baby M!

So far my pregnancy has been smooth sailing, with having morning sickness for two weeks, fatigue and of course the back pain, which is steadily getting worse, as my pregnancy progresses. I know all of it is for a good cause, as there is a little baby inside of me. I recently started feeling small kicks, which I can only describe as little butterflies in my stomach. I cannot wait for my husband to start feeling kicks!

Since time was quickly ticking, we did not waste any time researching baby products, starting our registry and clearing out the guest bedroom. We live in a two bedroom house, so now when family visits, they will need to stay in a hotel. It is overwhelming with everything you need to do to prepare for a baby’s arrival. It also makes it more difficult with John being a tennis coach and he’s in season. I know that if we work on things every night/weekend, we will get it completed. We have an amazing support system around us and I know that Baby M. will be very spoiled.

January 11 I was 20 weeks, so we are going to start taking weekly pictures of my bump. It’s amazing I woke up one morning and bam there’s the baby bump!

20 week bump - That was fast

We find out on Friday, January 16 (tomorrow!!!) if Baby M. is a boy or a girl. All we want is a healthy baby, but deep down we are hoping for a boy, as we already fell in love with bedding for the nursery! However, I have already started to buy some gender neutral clothes, as Carters was running great deals on winter clothes, which will definitely be needed, as long as we are living in Annapolis! I have priced out diapers and bought my first pack of diapers for Baby M! We will be saving as much money as possible with this baby.

I look forward to documenting the remainder of my pregnancy with everyone!

How far along were you when you found out you were pregnant?
