So about a month ago I wrote about how we really buckled down on the potty training and I gave some helpful tips to encourage potty training. I am happy to say that we are on the right track. Our toddler is in his big boy undies everyday all day long unless he is sleeping. As soon as he gets up from his nap or in the morning we take him to the bathroom to try and go and then we put undies on. He probably has one accident every other day which isn’t too bad considering all the times that he is going to the bathroom throughout the day. We continue to ask him every 45 minutes to an hour if he needs to go but usually he is the one to come to us and say that he needs to go potty. Our toddler’s communication really took off before he was 2 which was a plus because potty training is a lot easier when your child can tell you what is going on.
He likes his big boy undies way more than diapers which is great. At night he doesn’t much like putting the diaper on but I don’t think I am ready yet to wake him up every 2 hours in the middle of the night to go potty, but again that is on me right now. We have tried to lessen the amount of liquids during the day which has helped; not that we are dehydrating him or anything but instead of having a sippy cup attached to his hand and following him around every step he takes, now we just make sure that he is drinking periodically and during meals.
We have another trip to Disney coming up which I am slightly nervous about. A perk to having a child in diapers at Disney is that you don’t have to worry about accidents or finding a bathroom every hour. I think we will play it by ear but definitely start out with the undies and bring along extra pairs, and pull ups, and a change of clothes. I’ll update on potty training at Disney World when we come back =) For now hopefully things will continue to progress and we’ll start potty training at night with some success.
