CRASH!

CRASH

One of my biggest nightmares came true yesterday…. A car crash with ALL 4 of us in the car. My husband usually goes to pick up or drop off my step daughter each week. Our 1 ½ year old does not really like the 2+ hour ride, and I just would rather not have ALL of us in the car on the highway, if it can be avoided. That may sound mean to some, but I do not see the purpose of something happening to all of us if an accident were to happen.

Yesterday we were at my dad’s house for a BBQ, and decided to just ride together to pick my stepdaughter up. Well, on our way back we were in a four car pileup on Interstate 275. We were the car sandwiched between two other vehicles. This was the scariest moment of my life, hands down! Hearing my baby screaming in the back seat ripped my heart out! I did what NO mother should do. I jumped out of the car and got my daughter out as well before making sure the crash was over. I completely lost all sense of rationality at that moment! There was a cement barrier on the side of the highway and I jumped over that, baby in tow. My husband got my step daughter out and also joined me on the other side of the cement barrier. I was terrified that more cars were going to crash into us because the interstate was actually really busy for a Sunday. Thankfully, that did not happen.

Thankfully we are all ok! We are bruised and banged up, but ALIVE and walking! My daughter is in a rear facing car seat, my step daughter was in a booster with her seatbelt on, and my husband and I both had seatbelts on. I can tell you that had our children not been in the seats they were supposed to be in, and my husband and I not had seatbelts on, things would have been MUCH worse. We all had a lesson in why it is so important to wear seat belts and use car seats!

SO glad that you are all ok! I was in an accident with my then 6 month old son in the car. A truck blew through his stop sign at an intersection and hit my side of the car at nearly 50 mph. It was terrifying, but the baby slept through the whole thing!

That’s amazing, he stayed asleep! Glad you are okay too! It has got to be one of the scariest things you can go through as a mom.
