The Power to go Non-GMO!

(Please note this post was supposed to post before “Investing’ in Organic”. Please forgive the error)

As a people we have so much power. We choose who we elect, we choose where we live, how we raise our families and the food we purchase from the store. We become intimidated by the dollar signs of the fortune 500 companies, but fail to realize that those companies fail to exist without us.
Case in point…. Our food system.

As a consumer you have the right to know what you are buying. You have an obligation to your health, your spouse and your children to do what is in their best interest. Companies like to make society feel warm and fuzzy by using words like low calorie, fat free, 2%, 1%, whole grain, NATURAL, amongst other pronouns to hide the big words that do big damage to our bodies.

They sell us a dream while poisoning us, because realistically who has time to read 50 ingredients that you need a dictionary to decipher?

What are we to do?

There is a bill in the Congress known as the “Genetically Engineered Right-to-Know-Act”. The responsibility of this Act is HUGE. So BIG that GMO companies are saying “No! No! No!” And if you don’t know, GMO companies are EVERYWHERE. You’ve probably used them 50 times today and don’t even know it. If the Bill is passed it would make consumer awareness a number 1 priority. It would force companies to label their product as GMO or Non-GMO.

As it stands now, companies can elect to state this on their packaging. However if we are being realistic- the only companies willing to do so are the ones that are without. It’s something to be proud of.

Why would companies object to the GMO labeling…. Well the only reason my kids hide stuff from me is when they know it’s not ok and Mommy will not like it. Companies realize the average American purchases without research. Even with that we will become educated if they label their product as possibly cancerous, harmful, dangerous and down right “ethically” illegal with a GMO sticker. We might start asking questions that would lead us into a food revolution. We could boycott products that we currently rely WAY too much on.

So you see, we have the power. Our community needs to come together and act responsibly with our purchasing. Feed our families WHOLE nutritious foods. Live longer and with less disease and give ourselves a fighting chance to see a long, health life.

As they say, “Cancer is much more expensive”.

Best,

The Naturalist Mom
