My maternity leave has come to an end, but thankfully I am blessed enough to be able to stay at home with Monkey. I wouldn’t call myself a stay at home mom, as I went back to my full time job of social media. However, I am lucky to have a job that allows me to work from home, while taking care of my baby boy. This is such a blessing, as I do not have to put him in daycare and I get to spend the entire day with him. It is definitely going to be a huge adjustment, but with time I’d adjust to working from home, while taking care of Monkey.
I have only been back at work for a week and it is definitely a struggle to juggle a full time job, while being a full time mommy. Since I am breastfeeding, I have to take several mini breaks through the day, which can last 10-30 minutes, as it all depends on how hungry Monkey is at that given time. He usually goes down for a nap at 11:00, which allows me to 100% focus on my job, attend meetings, etc. His morning nap can last anywhere from 1-4 hours.
The best baby item, which we received as a gift from my Uncle Steve was the Graco 2-in-1 Glider Elite Swing. Unfortunately, the swing is no longer available for purchase, as Graco came out with something similar. The swing is not only portable, but it also has a vibration feature, which calms Monkey down, when he is fussy. The swing can either be plugged into an outlet or can be moved from room to room, by running on battery.
In between work and meetings, I make sure that Monkey gets ample of play time. We do tummy time on his play mat, read books, and play peek a boo. It is hard when Monkey needs attention and work is very busy, but I have to manage my time wisely throughout the day.
It is definitely not easy working from home with a baby, but I am simply taking it one day at a time. I am very lucky to work for such a great company, who allows me to work 1,000 miles away from the office. My bosses trust me that I will get my required work finished, by the end of each day. They are very understanding, when I have to tend to Monkey and his needs. I know not everyone is as lucky as I am and I certainly do not take that for granted.
It is nice that my husband works close to home, so if I am having a rough day, he can swing by on his lunch break to just give me a break. It is nice to have an extra set of hands throughout the day, but I have surprised myself with how much I can get done by simply using one hand. Becoming a mommy makes you do things, that you thought you would never be able to do.
During the day, for the next 5 years it is just me, Monkey and Charley, Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day. It is nice when John comes home from work, as he takes over watching Monkey, so I can decompress, even if it’s just laying in bed and watching TV, read a book, etc.
Do you or know anyone who works from home, while taking care of their little one? How do you manage to juggle both being a full time employee and mommy?
